Damon Albarn was the leader of a fiercely entertaining show last night at Camden’s’ Susquehanna Bank Center. The Gorillaz dominated the stage with presence rarely witnessed. Mick Jones pranced up and down on stage left with his Clash like confidence. Mick’s fellow bassist from the Clash “Paul Simonon” stood with his wide stance and booming bass notes on stage right. Two drummers played in sequence insuring the beat was felt deep in your chest. The brass section and strings soared high over the crowd through out the center. Snoop Dogg sat high above stage on the big screen while Mos Def, Bobby Womak, and Little Dragon made appearances through out the night.

The band played in sequence with the Gorillaz trademark animations. Frequently music would stop for a brief short including Gorillaz characters such as Murdoc and Noodle. Behind them stood tall letters spaced widely apart spelling GORILLAZ. The Letters flashed fluorescent colors all through the set. They could have had just the instruments up on stage and it would have been equally as phenomenal.

Damon said half way through the set “We didn’t expect this when we came to America.” The Crowd exploded in response. What we all should of said back was “We didn’t expect this when you came to America.” The Gorillaz reputation is high. Now it sits above the others. They blew us all away last night and will blow the rest of America away with us.
